𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑇𝑖𝑡𝑙𝑒 : Competitive Advantage in Sport: Mastering Quality Coach-Athlete Relationships

𝐾𝑒𝑦𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑒 𝑂𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑖𝑒𝑤: In this talk, she will explore what high-quality coach-athlete relationships look like by presenting a model that has been developed and tested to better understand a complex yet central interpersonal dynamic in sport. She will reveal the multi-layered structure of quality relationships and highlight their impact on both athletes and coaches’ optimal functioning. Finally, she will outline key strategies for leveraging these relationships, allowing coaches and athletes to not only get along, but also get ahead.

𝑆𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑎 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑖𝑒𝑤 : Sophia was a Professor of Psychology in the UK in one of the top sport Universities in the world for over 22 years. She is currently a full-time consultant, founder and Director of Tandem Performance Consulting, and a fellow researcher at several universities across the world. Sophia’s work revolves around interpersonal relationships, leadership and communication. Her research has informed coach development and high-performance environments across the world. Sophia is currently an Associate Editor of the International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology. She has co-edited a book entitled Social Psychology in Sport (2007, 2024), a special issue on interpersonal relationships in Psychology of Sport and Exercise (2006), and a monograph on the Psychology of Sports Coaching (2005). Sophia served as a Psychologist for the Greek team at the 2004 Olympic Games and is an associate fellow and chartered psychologist of the The British Psychological Society.
